Contest: WARCRAFT Blu-ray Giveaway!

The North American box office suggests that many of you who will read this did not see Duncan Jones’ giant fantasy video game adaptation Warcraft. And the Tomatometer approach would suggest to you that perhaps this film isn’t worth watching. We here at Cinapse would encourage you to pay no attention to the box office or critics ratings… and trust your Duncan Jones-loving heart. Three of us have covered the film in some capacity and have all found it endearing. Don’t miss David’s Blu-ray review, Brendan’s defense of the film, or my theatrical review with the One Of Us team.

It’s a messy movie with a grand scale and a deep mythology. It’s a silly movie which swings for the rafters and hits hard at times (the Orcs look flat-out amazing), and whiffs at others (that wizard apprentice guy is ROUGH).

We are happy to champion the film and hope to give more people a chance to check it out, so we’re thrilled we have a chance to give away FIVE Blu-ray copies of the film to 5 lucky winners.

Ed changed careers and moved halfway across the country from Maryland to Austin with his amazingly understanding wife just to figure out how to earn a living watching movies. He once heard it said that NY/LA are where you go to MAKE movies, but Austin is where you go to WATCH movies. And that is the truth. But seriously, if anyone knows how to make a living watching movies, please let him know. Twitter: @Ed_Travis

Greatest sympathetic monster is Frankenstein’s Monster. Cobbled together, he was created by mad man and not given any true guidance in this world.

  • AnnaZed

The obvious answer to this is Frankenstein, the monster as created in the book is an object of sympathy and that pathos is present in every representation of him on film from Karloff to Robert DeNiro.

Frankenstein’s monster has always been my favorite sympathetic monster of cinema history. He (or it, if you like) was the manifestation of its creator (Dr. Frankenstein’s) twisted invention. Highly misunderstood, lonely, and left to its own, to try and figure out its purpose for being. Truly tragic, and sad.

I know it’s going to sound like a broken record at this point but yeah I’d have to go with Frankenstein’s monster. My twitter handle is @yaomingfan2010

Teddy Daniels from Shutter Island, because he would rather (paraphrasing) die a good man than live as a monster. twitter – @handleticket

Frankenstein’s Monster seems like a popular response, but it was the 1st that popped into my head.
